Star Wars - Shadow Invasion Campaign

Introduction

After the gigantic Dark Trooper Campaign had ended I fell into a deep hole. What should I GM in the following time, what should I play?

Would I step back and be only a player, leaving the GM-role to others? That fell flat because I loved to play Star Wars, and there were few GMs who ran Star Wars RPG sessions in our area.

Would I get back to running one-shots without a cohesive storyline or a common background? That wasn’t part of the plan either, since the background was established and most of my players had arranged themselves with this kind of storytelling. They even expressed their enjoyment of adventure sessions that had a larger cause and plot in the background and were not just made to make it through one more session.

So, should I run another large campaign, bridging the gap between my TuRoC-regulars and the larger conventions and somehow integrate everything into one big storyline? As much as I had enjoyed this concept during the Dark Trooper campaign I was done with something so big that would run for years and needed so much attention to bring everything together in the end.

What was left? I decided to split the whole thing into two: one private campaign played in a more or less defined group where I could plan accurately for each character with their role and purpose. And apart from that I wanted a campaign for the large conventions where I could not only play with other friends I could only meet there, but also introduce new players to this concept.

So I started the Underworld Legacy campaign for private sessions and the Shadow Invasion campaign for the larger conventions. The concept for Shadow Invasion was originally developed even before the Finale, and after we had played chapter 4 of the Dark Aftermath there were enough connecting factors to come up with another campaign after the “Battle of the Eclipse”.

It had been planned to span exactly one year in order to prevent uncontrolled growth and deploy a clear structure. This encompassed exactly seven episodes without “fillers”, but when one convention was cancelled I was forced to revise the original plan. In addition, two TuRoC events had to be considered where my private campaign could not take place, so I came up with the side-stories.

October 2018, this campaign ended as planned with an extensive finale, but at that time there were only regular players left. On one hand this was a bit disappointing as the interest had waned over the course of the year, but on the other hand I had more time for the regulars this way and they made up for a few memorable moments.

Now here’s the material from Shadow Invasion campaign for you to browse. Enjoy!
